What is Tai Chi Chuan?Tai Chi Chuan, or simply 'Tai Chi', is a martial arts discipline that focuses on training the mind and the body equally using flowing movements that hone one's balance, strength, and mental focus. There are various schools/styles of Tai Chi in the world. At MTC, we teach Shaolin-Do style Tai Chi which is the 'internal' counterpart to traditional Shaolin Kung Fu ('external') training. Our curriculum includes open-hand forms, weapon forms, qigong, pa kua, i chin ching exercises, and meditation.

who is tai chi for?Tai Chi is one of the most versatile martial arts disciplines on the planet. Anyone, from the mobility-challenged senior to the 23-year-old MMA fighter, can get something out of this training. The exact same series of moves can be relaxing and meditative, or extremely physically challenging. It's entirely up to you.

Is it really a martial art?Yes. Although Tai Chi is frequently used as a physical therapy due to its versatility and accessible nature, it is at its core a fighting style. The name Tai Chi Chuan literally means Grand Ultimate Fist. Unlike many other Tai Chi styles, our curriculum focuses on practical applications so you can understand the purpose of each posture. Our i chin ching and chigong exercises are designed to build muscle strength, increase lung capacity, and boost cardio endurance. And regular meditation helps train your mind to be still and open.

"Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee
